This song came to be in the year leading into the pandemic. I tracked the piano at The Church Studio, which is different from the norm for us. Our home is Mr. Smalls Recording studio, located on the Northside with our good buddy (and sixth member) Nate Campisi. This time around though, I sought out Dave Hidek. The only time I’ve performed it in front of an audience is at our planetarium show in February of 2020.

This was my first track recorded with a string section.
Jon David Russell arranged the parts, assembled and directed the ensemble. Also a first – there’s no reverb on my vocals.

This song was mastered by Greg Calbi of Sterling Sound. He’s mastered music for the likes of Paul Simon, Dire Straits, John Mayer, Tame Impala, and St. Vincent – the list goes on and on. So you can imagine, this was very exciting for me.

My pops took this photo of the Milky Way. I had his late girlfriend Debi in mind when I worked on this song. We lost her around that time to cancer. Then, having lost my mother this past fall, she is a part of the meaning of this song as well. The song is about goodbyes – the fleeting nature of love and life.
